Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles baseball team closed out their 2017 campaign with a 4-0 loss to Simpson University on Sunday. With the loss, La Sierra dropped the series to the Redhawks with a 1-2 record on the weekend. Overall, the Golden Eagles finish the season with a record of 18-28 (10-20 in Cal Pac play).
Once the two teams took to the field, in the rubber match, the Redhawks Jarret Kirby stifled the Golden Eagles offense. Kirby, who picked up the win, gave up just three hits and two walks, in 6 1/3 innings.
Guerrero was charged with the loss as he surrendered the four runs (three earned) on eight hits, in 8 1/3 innings pitched.
The Redhawks struck early, with three runs in the first two innings. They added another run in the 6th inning, and that would account for all the scoring in the game.
Though narrowly, the baseball program still improved and set another record for wins in a season this year. The team won 17 games last season and eclipsed that mark by one game this season. With the addition of teams to the conference this year, they also improved their win total by one game in their conference record as well.
The team will now set their sights on 2017-18 as they look to take another step forward in the continued growth of the young program. Please stay tuned for recruiting news, relative to the baseball program throughout the rest of the spring and summer months.
