Head Coach Eric Thorson begins his first year at La Sierra University with high hopes of turning the Women's Basketball program around and challenging for an NAIA title before to long.
Coach Thorson graduated from Orangewood Adventist Academy in Garden Grove in 1987. While at OAA he played football, basketball and baseball at the varsity level, having lettered in all three sports. After a semester at Long Beach City College, playing wide receiver for the Vikings, Coach Thorson was hired as a full-time firefighter with the City of Garden Grove, where he continues to work today.
Eric began his coaching career returning to his alma mater, Orangewood Adventist Academy in 1993 to lead the Spartans' boys basketball team to their first appearance in CIF, advancing to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual Champions. After two seasons at Orangewood, coach Thorson was hired to take over the girls' basketball team at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, CA. In five years at St Anthony, Coach Thorson lead the Saints to an impressive overall record of 105 wins and 38 loses. The Saint's advanced to the CIF playoffs in each of his 5 seasons, and won the CIF Championship in 2000. Coach Thorson has had numerous players receive basketball scholarships at the college level and has mentored many coaches that continue to run successful programs to this day.
Coach Thorson has a simple philosophy for developing players and a building a winning program. "Work hard at everything you do, leave it all on the court, and no matter what the scoreboard says, your winners in my book". It is that drive and determination that Coach Thorson demands from those that play for him, that make his teams competitive at all times.
Thorson enjoys golf and Lakers basketball, as well as USC football in his free
time, and resides in the City of Los Angeles.

Andy Press comes to La Sierra University having coached high school basketball in Northern California for the past six seasons. Coach Press' relationship with Coach Thorson started when they coached together in 2000 at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach. They combined to lead the Lady Saints to their first ever C.I.F. championship. Coach Press brings a total of eleven years of coaching experience, with an emphasis on the defensive end of the court. "Andy Press' passion for basketball is exactly what the La Sierra Women's Basketball program needs," said Coach Thorson. "We are very lucky to have added a coach with Andy's background to our staff at La Sierra University.
"I am very excited to begin my college coaching career at La Sierra University. I see unlimited potential for the student athletes that have been recruited to play here. I expect to see this program achieve even greater success, and I'm excited to be a part of that," said Coach Press.
Andy lives in Orange County, and in his free time enjoys golfing, reading and going to the movies. Andy has a Bachelor's Degree in History and Political Science from California State University at Long Beach. He is currently completing his Master's Degree in Academic Counseling from San Jose State University.
